  2. 1. Jesus died an expected death.
  3. 2. Jesus died a voluntary death.
  4. 3. Jesus died a distinctive death.
  5. 4. Jesus died an atoning death.
  6. To atone is to unite two divided parties and make them “at-one.”
  7. On the cross Jesus could save himself or he could save us, but he could not do both.
  8. There is one "last minute" conversion in the Bible so no one would think it's too late. There is only one so that we won't be tempted to be presumptuous and foolish.
  9. The cross proves that sin is not trivial, that we are valuable, and forgiveness is possible.
